Wilmar en el ensayo con el grupo de alabanza

Estimada familia y amigos:

Mi deseo es que la presencia de Dios este con ustedes  de la misma manera que ha estado con nosotros. Ya tenemos cuatro meses de estar por acá y hemos estado trabajando en varios proyectos y poniendo nuestra confianza siempre en Dios en cada paso que damos.

Jessica continua trabajando en la oficina con el programa de “Plan padrinos” y por supuesto, vigilando a la misma vez a Caleb. El día que no vamos a la oficina Caleb se levanta y anuncia: “ocina mama”-Oficina mama, y luego pide su abrigo y se dirige hacia la puerta. Es muy interesante leer las cartas que estos niños escriben a sus patrocinadores. Muchas veces Jessica es animada mientras lee lo que estos niños y jóvenes escriben. ¡Hay mucha esperanza para el futuro de la iglesia! En una de las últimas cartas, una joven de 13 años escribió de la vida de su abuelo que recientemente había fallecido. Ella contaba que todas las mañanas él se levantaba a orar y después ella decía que quiere ser como él cuando ella sea grande. ¡Palabras muy alentadoras! Abuelos, ustedes están haciendo la diferencia en la vida de sus nietos, aún para los que tienen 13 años.

Celebramos el cumpleaños de Wilmar en los últimos días de Julio, mucha gente de la iglesia vino. Les servimos fajitas y a la vez les tuvimos que enseñar como servírselas. Parece que les gustaron. La pasamos muy bien en armonía, cantamos, comimos pastel (Muy bueno por cierto) y sobre todo muchas carcajadas.  Hasta una llamada de larga distancia de parte de su madre en medio de toda la fiesta- una buena sorpresa ya que habíamos tenido mucha dificultad para comunicarnos con la familia en Nicaragua.

Wilmar predica a los jovenes

Wilmar fue invitado a predicarles a los jóvenes de una de las iglesias locales. Tuvimos otro choque cultural cuando se nos dijo ese mismo día que el servicio no comenzaría hasta las 8:30pm. Llegamos, jugamos, cantamos y por último la predicación. Después del sermón uno de los chicos se le acercó y la dijo: Dios habló a mi vida con este sermón. Durante la siguiente semana Wilmar le preguntó a la esposa del pastor como estaban los chicos, ella testificó que contactaron a uno de los chicos nuevos. Y este dijo que esa noche él llegó a su casa y empezó a buscar una Biblia por todos lados porque él quería darle seguimiento  al sermón de esa noche. Si Dios nos trajo a la Argentina tan solo para hablarles a estos dos jóvenes, nosotros estamos satisfechos. Pero sabemos que Dios tiene más planes y posibles sorpresas para nosotros.

Wilmar, también ha estado “laburando”-trabajando  en la reconstrucción de un tráiler- tuvo la oportunidad de usar su destreza de soldadura - el cual es usado generalmente para transportar maletas cuando se hacen viajes de larga distancia con grupos de trabajo y testimonio u otros grupos. Así como en la remodelación de las nuevas oficinas del Cono Sur.

Wilmar está  atendiendo dos células las cuales visita una vez por semana. Estamos discipulándoles a través de la película Jesús con un nuevo material llamado, Encuentros Extraordinarios, sacado de la película María Magdalena. El trabajo con estas células ha sido muy interesante ya que la mayoría de ellos son nuevos convertidos. Hemos visto como los miembros-especialmente tres de los esposos que antes no participaban- de estos grupos se han interesado haciendo preguntas y  comentarios. ¡No hay duda que Dios está  usando este material para alcanzar a sus hijos perdidos!

¡También nos gustaría anunciarles que oficialmente tenemos nuestro carro! Es un carrito muy interesante, no tenía muchos kilómetros y también porque lo tenía otro misionero. Así que nos sentimos más libres para movernos. A Wilmar le permite movilizarse hacia las células con mayor facilidad y por supuesto congregarnos en nuestra iglesia local para la práctica en la música, estudios bíblicos y domingos por la mañana.  La Iglesia nos queda a unos 45 minutos de nuestra casa. Así que tener nuestro carrito nos ayuda a movilizarnos de una manera más efectiva y es un alivio para aquellos que nos daban “ride”.

Wilmar practices for Sunday

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that Lord’s presence is real to you, as it has been to us. We are now in month four here in Argentina. We are working on various projects and trusting God each step of the way.

Jessica works in the office, continuing with the work of the Nazarene Child Sponsorship program and taking care of Caleb. On days when we don’t head for the office right away, Caleb announces, “Ocina, mama” (Office, mama) and then asks for his jacket so we can move along to his home away from home for the morning. It is very interesting to read the letters that the children write to their sponsors. Many times she is encouraged as she reads what these young people say. There is great hope for the future of the church! In one of the recent letters, a 13 year-old girl wrote that her grandfather had passed away and the she talked about what he was like. Among the many things she said was, “He woke up at 6am every morning to pray” and then went on to say, “I want to be just like him when I grow up.” It was heartwarming. Grandparents, you are making a difference in your grandchildren’s lives, even for the 13 year-olds!

We celebrated Wilmar’s birthday at the end of July with lots of the young people from church. We served them fajitas and had to give them a lesson about how to build them. They seemed to like them. It was a nice time of fellowship with food, singing, cake, and lots of laughter. Wilmar even got a telephone call from his mother in the middle of it all, which was a nice surprise, as we have had difficulty communicating with his family in Nicaragua.

Wilmar was invited to preach during the youth service at a local church. We had a bit of a shock when they told us that the service didn’t begin until 8:30pm. We arrived, played, sang, and then he preached. Since then we have heard two different testimonies about how God used Wilmar to speak to some of the youth through his message. After the sermon one of the guys told Wilmar: “God spoke to me through your sermon.” During the week Wilmar asked the pastor’s wife how the youth were doing. She testified that they contacted one of the new youth and the night after the service he began to look for his Bible everywhere until he found it because he wanted to follow up with some of the things that were said during the sermon. If God brought us to Argentina just so we could speak to these two young people, we are satisfied. But we know that God more plans and perhaps some surprises for us.

Wilmar preaches to the group

Wilmar also has been working on rebuilding the chassis of a trailer that is used for different projects in the Southern Cone. He has put his welding skills to work in order to have the trailer ready. It is generally used to transport luggage when they do a long-distance Work & Witness trip or right now it will be used to help in the remodel of the new offices of the Southern Cone.

We are also going to two cell groups per week and presenting discipleship lessons through the Jesus Film production, Mary Magdalene. This has been especially exciting as the members of the cell groups are very new Christians. We have seen family members, especially 3 of the husbands that had never taken interest before, take interest and start asking questions, also. God is using this means to reach His lost children!

We also would like to let you know that we now officially own a car! It is a very nice little car with low mileage and was formerly owned by another missionary. We are so glad to be able to move about more freely. It enables Wilmar to travel easily to the cell groups each week and for us to travel to our local church each weekend for music practice, Bible studies, and Sunday worship. Our church is about 45 minutes away by car, so to have one of our own is especially helpful and appreciated by those who were giving us a ride each week! It’s also nice for trips to the grocery store.
